United States Congressman Riley Moore has voiced strong concern over the scale of violence in Benue State after meeting with internally displaced Christians during his visit to Nigeria.
In a deeply emotional post shared on his social media page, Moore said he met “dozens of Christians who were driven from their homes and subjected to horrific violence” and now live across several IDP camps in the state.
The congressman recounted heartbreaking stories shared with him by survivors.
According to him, one woman described how armed attackers killed her husband and five children while she was forced to watch. She escaped with her unborn child, narrowly surviving the assault.
Another woman told Moore that her entire family was murdered in front of her and that her baby was violently ripped from her womb during the attack.
He also narrated the account of a man whose family was hacked to death, leaving his arm permanently damaged.
Moore said these experiences “will remain with me for the rest of my life,” stressing that more than 600,000 Christians are currently living in IDP camps in Benue alone.
He condemned the attacks, stating that Christians in the region “should be able to live in their ancestral homeland without fear of genocidal Fulani.”
His visit and statement have renewed discussions on the worsening humanitarian situation in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where communities continue to grapple with displacement, killings, and long-running conflicts.
