The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Wisdom Onyeaju, from Umuekweye, Irete, Owerri-West Local Government Area, over an alleged case of defilement that recently went viral on social media.

The arrest was confirmed on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, who said the police acted on credible information provided by the victim’s family after the disturbing video surfaced online.
According to DSP Henry, the suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where a detailed investigation is ongoing.
“The suspect is in custody and undergoing thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department. He will be arraigned in court with the appropriate charges once the investigation is concluded,” Henry stated.
In a further development, the police spokesperson disclosed that officers accused of professional misconduct while handling the case have also been identified and detained.
“An orderly room trial has been scheduled to commence on Monday, 12th January, 2026, to address the misconduct in line with extant police regulations,” he added.
DSP Henry assured the public that the Imo State Police Command remains committed to upholding justice and maintaining professional standards.
“We remain committed to professionalism, transparency, and accountability. Justice will be served in this matter,” he said.
The case has continued to draw public attention following the circulation of the video, with residents and rights groups calling for swift and transparent handling of the investigation.
