The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly dismissed ongoing talks about former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In recent weeks, reports have suggested that some PDP leaders are making moves to woo Obi back into the fold ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, with speculations that he could be considered as the party’s flag bearer. Among those who publicly confirmed the reconciliation effort were Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.
But speaking during a media chat on Monday, September 1, Wike condemned the idea, warning that Obi’s return would spell doom for the party.
“Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party the more? Some of these people don’t have character. Obi was abusing the party, saying it was rotten. Now the same party is good enough for him to come and run? If you want to destroy this party, dare to bring Peter Obi,” Wike said.
He went further to accuse the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate of being overly ambitious, saying:
“There is nowhere he wouldn’t go because of ambition. Some people’s ambition can even make them go to Satan’s house. Can’t we be principled, even when we are looking for president?”

Wike’s comments have stirred fresh debates about the future of the PDP as it continues to struggle with internal divisions and the fallout from the 2023 elections.
