A tragic Denver school shooting at Evergreen High School left two students critically injured and the suspected shooter dead after opening fire on his peers.

A Denver school shooting on Wednesday afternoon shocked the Evergreen community after a student opened fire on two of his classmates before turning the gun on himself. Authorities confirmed the suspected shooter later died from his injuries.
The shooting took place around 12:30 p.m. at Evergreen High School, located in the Rocky Mountain foothills, about 30 miles west of Denver. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Jacki Kelley, gunfire erupted both inside and outside the school building.
Law enforcement officers arrived within minutes and discovered the shooter without having to fire any shots themselves. More than 100 police officers from nearby agencies rushed to the scene to secure the campus and assist terrified students.
Hospital officials at St. Anthony Hospital said the two teenage victims were initially in critical condition. By evening, one had stabilized with what trauma director Dr. Brian Blackwood described as non-life-threatening injuries. The ages of the victims have not yet been released.
The chaos spread beyond the school grounds as frightened students fled. Eighteen students sought refuge at a nearby home after pounding on the door for safety, according to resident Don Cygan, a retired educator. His wife, a retired nurse, helped calm the shaken teens and treated them for shock until parents arrived.
Parents anxiously gathered outside a nearby elementary school awaiting reunification with their children. Authorities have not yet released details about the shooter’s identity or motive.
