Court Orders Two DNA Tests on Mohbad’s Son

Presiding Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga delivered the ruling on Tuesday following an application by Mohbad’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, who is seeking to determine the paternity of his grandson.

The court directed that two separate DNA tests should be conducted: one in Nigeria at an accredited hospital and another outside the country at an internationally recognised medical facility.

The court further instructed that both parties or their representatives must be present when the samples are taken to ensure transparency.

Why Mohbad’s Father Demanded a DNA Test

In his application, Mr. Aloba argued that there is lingering uncertainty over the paternity of little Liam. He maintained that a DNA test is necessary, given the sensitivity of the issue, to provide clarity for the child’s welfare and to determine the respondent’s (Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi’s) obligations.

The application was filed pursuant to provisions of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.

During proceedings, Augustine Adegbemi, from the law firm of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., represented Mr. Aloba, while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba (Wunmi).

The magistrate granted the order after the respondent’s counsel raised no opposition to the application.

Next Steps in Mohbad’s DNA Case

With the court’s directives in place, the DNA test process will be monitored to ensure fairness. The case has been adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.

The ruling marks a significant step in the ongoing legal battles surrounding Mohbad’s death and family matters, with the outcome of the DNA test expected to put lingering questions about Liam’s paternity to rest.
