Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has spoken candidly about her early struggles with motherhood, revealing that bonding with her son did not come easily at first.

In a heartfelt interview with content creator Korty EO, the award-winning singer shared that she initially found it difficult to connect with her son during his first year or two. According to Tiwa, she had always hoped for a baby girl, and the news that she was having a boy left her emotional.
“Honestly, I didn’t bond with him for the first year or two. I always wanted a girl. When they told me it was a boy, I started crying,” she revealed.

Tiwa also spoke about the physical and emotional toll childbirth took on her at the time. She explained that her body didn’t bounce back as expected, and she struggled with how she looked, especially as her career was at a critical point.
“My body did not snap back. I looked horrible. I was supposed to do a campaign with Pepsi then, but they had to drop me and use somebody else,” she said.
The singer admitted that during that difficult period, she felt overwhelmed and unfairly blamed her son for the changes she was experiencing. “I just thought this boy has destroyed me,” she added honestly.
However, time changed everything.
Tiwa Savage shared that her relationship with her son has since grown into something beautiful and unbreakable. “Now, that is my best friend. Me and him are like best friends. It’s not for the camera or social media,” she said with a smile.
She also opened up about her determination to raise her son into a kind and respectful man. Tiwa revealed that she often reminds him of the sacrifices she made and teaches him the importance of treating women with love and respect.
“I always tell him, your mum suffered oo, so make sure you treat any girl like a queen,” she said. “He will make mistakes, he won’t be perfect, but at his core, I want him to be kind.”
Touching briefly on her past relationships, the singer did not hold back, stating that there are very few she looks back on fondly. She mentioned that one truly good relationship she experienced ended tragically with the person’s passing, describing him as “incredible” and praying for his soul to rest in peace.
Tiwa Savage’s honesty has sparked conversations online, with many fans praising her for speaking openly about postpartum struggles, motherhood, and the realities women face behind the spotlight.
