Popular American Twitch streamer and internet personality, Kai Cenat, has returned to Nigeria for the second time, arriving in Lagos on Wednesday amid renewed attention on his long-promised school project.

Kai Carlo Cenat is an American online streamer, YouTuber, and internet personality who specializes in comedic live streams and videos.

Cenat landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where he was welcomed with a lively band performance, a moment that quickly went viral across social media platforms. His arrival has once again sparked conversations among Nigerian fans and online observers.

The visit comes nearly a year after Cenat’s first trip to Nigeria, during which he announced plans to invest $5 million in building a school for children in Makoko, the waterfront community often described as Lagos’ floating slum. Following the announcement, the project experienced delays due to land acquisition challenges and regulatory approvals in Makoko. Owing to the area’s unique floating structures, plans were later revised, with the school site relocated to Yaba, a more stable part of Lagos.

Despite the change in location, Cenat has consistently maintained that children from Makoko will benefit from free education once the school becomes operational. During his Mafiathon 3 livestream, he revealed that over $1 million has already been raised for the initiative and emphasized a phased approach to spending. According to him, the focus is on long-term sustainability rather than rushing the construction process.

During his current visit, Cenat paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos House, Marina. The meeting was confirmed in a statement shared on X by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat.

According to the statement, Cenat shared his positive experiences in Lagos with the governor and expressed appreciation for the city. It was also disclosed that the streamer is in Lagos to follow up on projects and initiatives aimed at supporting children and young people across the state.

“Kai Cenat is in Lagos to follow up on some projects and initiatives he plans to execute for kids and young people in Lagos State, Nigeria,” the statement noted.

Cenat’s return has reignited excitement among fans, many of whom hope his presence signals renewed momentum for the school project. However, some online users remain sceptical, calling for visible on-ground progress and clearer timelines.

His visit also comes amid growing global attention on Nigeria’s digital and creative space. Just weeks ago, fellow American streamer IShowSpeed visited the country, drawing massive crowds and generating viral moments during his Lagos tour. The back-to-back visits have further highlighted Nigeria’s rising profile in global digital culture.

With Kai Cenat now back in Lagos, attention is once again focused on whether this second visit will translate into concrete steps toward fulfilling one of his most ambitious promises yet.
