Onyinyechi Basil from Anambra State has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 in Lagos. She will now represent Nigeria at the global Miss Universe pageant later this year.
It was a night of glamour, culture, and anticipation as 22 young women from across the country competed for the crown of Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 in Lagos.
By the end of the evening, Onyinyechi Basil, representing Anambra State, emerged as the new queen, winning one of the most closely followed editions in recent years.
Basil’s win came after a tense final showdown with Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, who finished as the first runner-up. Miss Bayelsa, Fortune Kurobo, claimed the second runner-up spot, while Miss Ogun, Irene Ikediashi, placed third. Rounding up the top five was Miss Akwa Ibom, Idah Eno, who also received a special title as Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025.
The evening was nothing short of spectacular. The traditional attire segment drew loud applause as contestants celebrated Nigeria’s cultural richness with modern designs. The swimwear round boldly promoted body confidence and inclusivity, while the evening gown segment showcased elegance and class. To keep the energy high, choreographed dance performances thrilled the audience and set the stage for the big announcement.
But the competition wasn’t just about the runway. The public played a huge role, with voting numbers showing just how passionate Nigerians were this year. Miss Delta, De-Blessing Asaboro, topped the polls with 38,319 votes, followed closely by Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, with 34,033, and Miss Ekiti, Ezekiel Silver, with 28,074.
Hosted by Anthony Abraham and Victory Wilson, the finale pulled a massive audience and lit up social media, where fans debated and cheered all night as they counted down to the winner.
When Basil’s name was finally announced, the hall erupted. For her, the crown is more than a title; it’s a responsibility. She now succeeds Chidinma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, and will represent Nigeria on the global Miss Universe stage later this year.
